Labor leadership hopefuls count their numbers, gather signatures and prepare to file paperwork to stand as candidates for governor.

With less than a month to go, more than 800 people had gathered for the party’s March 5 convention, including an impressive number of registered members and former candidates who have seen their names in the news — notably Democratic Sen. Barbara B여주출장마사지oxer, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and a number of House Democrats.

But a lot of these voters, many of them young, have chosen instead to focus their energies on their jobs and families. For them, the battle for governor is more about state, not national politics, with just a week remaining before the election.

Many in attendance Wednesday told POLITICO that despite their excitement about this election, they felt obligated to participate because of the party’s long history.

They said the party has done little for them during the past decade and years, but they want to see improvement — something they don’t think they were getting during the state’s current political upheaval.

It’s also one question the party is trying to dispel, and many in attendance seemed reluctant to provide specifics.

The candidates — including former state Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and former U.S. senator Elizabeth Warren — were asked several times about their support for same-sex marriage, the minimum wage and tuition at public colleges.

But no candidate came clean on those themes, instead promising to work to ensure that their party becomes a vehicle for change.

Warren also stood alongside state Sen. Ben Padilla and Democratic Party chair Raymond Blanc (Lan.), urging members in attendance to support their candidate for lieutenant governor in what will be a tight race in a state that is expected to win by a razor-thin margin.

“When you give yourself time, people are going to do different things,” said Padilla, D-Napa, who declined to elaborate on his campaign pledge. “People are getting out here to vote, to get registered.”

Other Democrats said their party is in disarray and should focus on working with the voters who remain. Rep. Mike Thompson, a California Democrat who endorsed gubernatorial hopeful Ben Keating in a last-minute bid, also said the party has plenty of time to work — but일산출장샵 said he hopes voters will take note of the마카오카지노 party’s recent history.

“Let’s take a step back and realize the damage we’re doing right now and turn around now so we can move forward,” Thompson said.
